How Vustra Eliminated Thousands of Pieces of Plastic Packaging

At Vustra, sustainability isn’t just a talking point—it’s part of every decision we make, from the fabrics we choose to the way our garments are packaged. While many brands focus on organic materials or ethical production, we saw another opportunity to make a meaningful impact: eliminating plastic from our packaging.

In the early days, each shirt came individually wrapped in a plastic bag. Inside those bags were even more plastic components—collar supports, shirt butterflies, tags, and other packaging elements that offered little value to the customer and added a long-term burden to the planet. These single-use plastics are rarely recycled and often end up in landfills, where they can take hundreds of years to break down.

We knew there had to be a better way. Working closely with our manufacturing partners, we audited every piece of packaging used in our supply chain. The goal was simple: eliminate what wasn’t necessary and replace what was with recyclable or biodegradable alternatives.

The result? We eliminated over 5,000 plastic bags, 15,000 shirt butterflies, and 10,000 plastic collar supports. Today, more than 90% of our packaging is recyclable, and we continue to reduce our reliance on materials that harm the environment.

This shift isn’t just about reducing waste—it’s about aligning every touchpoint of the brand with our values. From the moment someone receives a Vustra shirt, we want them to know they’re supporting a brand that takes sustainability seriously. That doesn’t stop at the fabric or design. It extends all the way to the box it arrives in.

By removing plastic from our packaging, we’ve made a small but important step toward a cleaner future—and we’re just getting started.
